Adam's Image

Greetings ImAHebrew or Hyssop, whomever checks up on this first!

Curious on your take about something:

Genesis Says that Seth was created in Adam's image. If all men and women are created in Elohim's image, then how is Seth created in Adam's?

Peace,
Valid Name

ps, posted this at the other board as well, don't know when the last time you may have been around here!

Welcome back, Valid Name:

That's a very good question. According to the Strong's, the Hebrew word (6754) for "image" is the same, meaning illusion, resemblance; hence a representative figure, especially an idol.

We do know that man (as in mankind) is the image of G-d (I Cor 11:7). Man is a physical representation of what G-d is. G-d has spiritual hands (Mark 16:19), arms (Deut 5:15), eyes (Deut 11:12), etc.; created man resembles that spiritual entity.

I can only surmise that Seth looked like (resembled) his father. There may very well be, however, a better explanation. I'm not sure of the relevance of making that statement, and we know that G-d packs a lot of information into His word that is not always easily seen.

Greetings Hysopp,

Good of course to hear from you in this different light, but enjoy speaking with you in any sense.

(6754) I believe of course from what I know, is the same word as from Genesis 1:27 (thinking that what the verse is)...

While I see the other verses, doesn't this put a quandry into anything?

Peace,
Yeah, Me

While it is a very good observation, I don't know how Seth being created in Adam's image takes away anything from mankind being the image of G-d. So, I don't see a quandry. Please explain.

On a related note, consider the following scripture:
Colossians 3 KJV
[5] Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
I have often wondered how Paul equated covetousness with idolatry.

What is an idol? It is simply an image, a representation of something else. According to the Strong's the word "image" used in Gen 1:27 means: H6754 - From an unused root meaning to shade; a phantom, that is, (figuratively) illusion, resemblance; hence a representative figure, especially an idol.

What is idolatry? Bowing down and serving an idol. So, when one is not satisfied with what G-d has given them, their efforts are focused on serving themselves, an image of the Creator. And, by doing so, they are participating in idolatry.

Genesis 5:3 And Adam lived a hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his likeness, after his image, and called his name Seth.

Adam was created in the "Image of God", but who would think coated with the layer of mud and the skin of hasatan, Adam still resembled is creator?

Shalom

Talking

Greeting Hyssop,

Hope all is well.

I agree this is a good observation that someone else observed while I observed someone observing.

Anywho. The discourse of course is that which followed a very singular linear path. That path was; "If Adam is the image of G-d and Adam has fallen then all his offspring now become the image of Adam rather than G-d." Hence the complex quandry.

I spoke with Spying and he helped make it a polypath with many different roads;

Saying that Adam and Eve are the image, and Seth is the image of The Man, Adam, not the woman. I Thought it was a pretty good deduction of the answer.

That last paragraph has a Yogi-Berra-ism in it as well if you Know Hebrew which was spoken by the Hebrewians.

Shabbot Shalom and have a Good Sabbath!!!
